保証人

賃借人が家賃やその他の損失を支払わない場合に、代わりに支払うことを書面で約束する人です。学生や低所得の人に求められることがよくあります。

要するに: 保証人は、賃借人が義務を果たさない場合に、その義務を履行することを約束する保証証書（通常は捺印証書）に署名します。イングランドの家主は保証人を求めることができますが、賃借人や保証人に手数料を請求することはできません。家賃の前払いが現在1か月分に制限されているため、保証人は一般的な代替手段となっています。
